Stitch Fix August 2014

I just received my first ever package in the mail. I was so excited, I pretty much ran up the stairs to try these goodies on…. (excuse the fuzzy pics, I was entirely too lazy to retake these!)

1. May Chevron Print Knit Back Top (salmon) – I both love and not love this top. The color is fantastic, and the material is nice, breezy and super comfortable… but it may be a little too breezy. I kind of feel like I’m wearing a mumu, and this may not be the best top for my figure. I may keep it, I’m still undecided.

2. Cathleen Abstract Print Tulip-Sleeve Blouse – No. No. No. No. No. This definitely feels like I’m wearing a tent. My figure gets super lost in this!

3. Nolan Ankle Skinny Jean & Brydon Twisted Seams Striped Tank – The skinny jeans fit me perfectly, and are very comfortable…BUT, since they’re white, they are also very very see through. The striped top, I neither love nor hate. I’ll most likely be passing on both items.

4. Maylie Chevron Skirt Maxi Dress – I LOVE how this dress fits on me. It’s still loose enough to hide my tummy, but the fit is quite flattering. I am so keeping this!

Over all, I’m quite pleased with this experience (shopping AND getting to try on clothes without leaving the house? Can I get a Hellz to the Yeah!). I’m definitely looking forward to next month’s fix!

18 Months of Yuki

It’s still hard to believe that Yuki is no longer a tiny baby, and is instead, well on her way into toddlerhood. Out of curiosity,  I compiled a list of words that were in her vocabulary before taking her to her 18 month check up. 65 words.  Holy. Crap. I’m not even sure when she learned a lot of these. It’s even more amazing to think that this list will only continue to grow.  One of the things that Yuki seems to not have outgrown yet is this persistent eczema that appears on her ankles and wrists. We’ve tried all sorts of remedies including:

  • coconut oil (made it worse)
  • Eucerin Eczema Cream (works better once the eczema is under control and needs to be applied frequently)
  • FAB Ultra Repair Cream (works relatively well,  but kind of pricey)
  • Steroid cream (we use this when her skin gets REALLY bad)

I’ve ordered a bottle of doTerra Lavender essential oil, and will try this next to see if we can get the flare ups under control.

Year 1 + 5 months in…

It’s kind of hard to believe how much this little bean has grown. I remember when I could carry her in one arm without a thought… nowadays, I’m huffing and puffing with this 22lbs kiddo.

Yuki’s had a few milestones since the last time I’ve updated. She had her first dentist appointment (OH THE TEARS), and has become very discerning when it comes to which books must be read at bedtime. She loves to brush her own teeth, and always tries to drink from a grown up cup. Yuki has learned to climb on to the bed, the couch, the step stool in the bathroom, the piano stool, and her parents.

Yuki is also obsessed with ball pits and bounce houses (we’re going to have to get her her own ball pit!)

Other quirky new habits… hiding her puzzle pieces under the playmat:

Climbing on to her book box and planking:

“Playing” with Roscoe:

This obsession with our headsets:

loving MY TEA (I don’t even have sugar in it. Just unsweetened almond milk!), and she loves the taste of soap (what a weirdo!)

We’ve been working on using basic sign language with her to help her communicate with us if she wants/needs something. She had been using the sign for milk for a while (which, to her, meant either milk or water). She’s finally figured out the sign for more and uses it for both food and more. I showed her the sign for eat, and she sometimes forgets to sign, but will chant eateateateateat until I give her some food.

Just recently, Steve taught her the word cookie (I showed her the sign for it). Now, when she wants whatever sweet thing I’m eating, she’s yelling COOKIECOOKIECOOKIE (and sometimes tries to work her little hands to sign for it).

Other words she loves: apple, ball, doggie, duckie, dada, eat, banana, mammam, bee, nose, nonono, up. Every time I sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star to her, she tries really hard to say up above (and she’s almost succeeds every time!).

Her favorite bedtime book I Love You Through and Through… and whenever I say “I love you”, she’s been saying it right back! (I really need to record that. It’s stinkin’ cute.)

Yuki has become a tiny, running, demanding, discerning, talking human. BUT, occasionally, she likes to remind me that she’s still a baby.
